Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant at WSMC is responsible for providing direct outpatient and inpatient medical services to Community Health Center patients. S/he is responsible for rendering services that reflect current standards of medical care appropriate to the local medical community. S/he is responsible for coordination of care as appropriate, and for documentation as appropriate for continuity of care and risk management. S/he serves as a member of the health care team whose goals are described in the Community Health Center mission statement, and assumes responsibility as assigned for quality assurance quality improvement efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all medical judgments and decisions while on duty.
- Respond directly to telephone calls and examine the patient at any time upon request.
- Examine the patient prior to issuing, modifying or refilling patient’s prescriptions.
- Perform minor laboratory procedures within CLIA guidelines.
- Perform chest and extremity x-rays, including appropriate markings, shielding, name plates, and developing. (WSMC site only)
- Provide adequate and informed referral of those patients requiring further care.
- Remain on-site at the Medical Clinic during office hours, except for meals.
- When on-call be within 15 minutes of responding to clinic.
- Participate’ in staff meeting and the Total Quality Management program of the clinic. Assist when asked to review medical records on the basis of specific criteria.
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records including dispensing of stock medicines, narcotics and samples.
- Ensure adequate patient billing and insurance information and attempt collection if at all possible.
- Maintain records on all patients seen and provide listing of those requiring follow-up when going off duty.
- Maintain security of Clinic facility and equipment.
- Perform duties at Sierra County jail prescribed by the contract.
- Be familiar with the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant protocols.
- Be familiar with the Clinic administrative including the Personnel policies and the clinical policies and procedures including the infection control, immunization, and disaster manuals.
- Read/sign the orientation manual, administrative and clinical policies manuals with the initial employment.
Qualifications:
- Valid California license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.
- Ability to do minor laboratory procedures including urinalysis, wet mounts, draw blood and do cultures.
- X-ray technology license in California is desirable.
- Minor surgery skills.
- ACLS and PALS certified.
- M.I.C.N. or M.I.C.P.A. certified. (WSMC site only.)
- Administratively competent to handle record keeping and fee collection.
- Personality and temperament supportive to the clinic staff and patients unique to small communities.
- Provide the Clinic Executive Director with complete staff application including a copy of license, NP or PA credentials, copy of furnishing license if applicable and three letters of recommendation.
